Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan is one of the early Serge Lutens fragrances and is considered a bell weather amber scent. If you don't know if you love amber, try this, you'll find out quickly! If you love amber, this is a must-have for any amber-lover's fragrance collection. Notes of rose, musk and myrtle support and enliven the amber, and it is incredibly long-lasting, pretty much shower-to-shower!

from bestmenscolognes - "Ambre Sultan opens up with the amber note, that is joined by quite a resinous aroma, and a healthy dose of spice. Coriander, bay leaf, and some herbal spices are fairly heavy at the start of this fragrance. I was expecting it to be a warmer and sweeter fragrance than it is, but I instead get, a lot of sandalwood and the aforementioned spice notes. It does get somewhat sweeter, as it wears on, but it's nothing super dramatic."
from olfactoriastravels - "I thought an amber fragrance from our dear Serge would blast me clean out of my boots, to put it mildly. What I got was a purring kitten, sleeping in my lap, spreading its warmth, not a roaring tiger that is out to have me for dinner. Ambre Sultan is a gorgeous perfume, an amber to love, an amber to cherish, an amber perfect in its execution, but it does not pack a punch like Annick Goutal Ambre Fetiche, Armani Prive Ambre Orient, Parfums d'Empire Ambre Russe or Tom Ford's Amber Absolute, it is a lot subtler and lower in volume."

One of my top 3 scents of all time, perhaps the definitive amber, and a must for all oriental freaks. Simply a thick, sweet cedar-smoked dose of amber, sandalwood and ghostly, far-off caramel vanilla (dont let that put you off, gormand haters- it's a very distant element) that burns low and heavy on the skin. Maybe stick cinnamon and frankincense show up in the tail end? Austere and carnal at the same time. I personally can't live without this one as it is so sympathetic with my personal chemistry, but if you're a flower-humper this is probably not for you. Divine.

I liked this one right from the start. It's that mysterious, Oriental spice that I'm sometimes looking for. If you liked Opium back in the day, this is a nice scent, but softer, in the same family, but maybe not a first cousin.

One of the best amber scents in the world and one of my favorites. It is a heavy scent and a must have for anyone who likes amber.
