Imaginary Authors is born from the concept of scent as art and art as provocation. Like a good book, these scents are meant to inspire you. In these bottles are layered narratives that are sure to generate stirring conversation, fragrances that might be capable of changing the course of your own personal story. The hope is that they not only invigorate and intoxicate, but also take you to new places. Created by Josh Meyer and Launched in 2012.
The early exploration writing of Philip Sava bent the limits of post-modern fiction, revealing fantastical worlds that fooled many into believing they were, in fact, real. Sava's kaleidoscopic collections, of which Memoirs of a Trespasser is the undeniable centerpiece, drew upon true experiences from his exotic travels but were infused with a hallucinatory inventiveness that set his work apart from others in the genre.
Though Sava had associates all over the world, he spent most of his time living in solitude on a ranch in southern Madagascar. When interrogated by the press on his cloistered lifestyle he notoriously answered, "Who needs love when you have cognac?"

REVIEWS
Fragrantica - "Right off the first spray this smelled like Coca Cola gummy candies. It was sweet, woody, sorta fizzy, and super ambery. The myrhh is extremely strong here and very resinous as well as the Guaiacwood. The oak barrels in this give it an old, dusty, damp wood note. This is woody, it's dry, powdery, and amber heavy. The vanilla is present but it's a background note. It only adds a slight sweetness. The spice hits you as this dries down and it's overwhelming to my nose. I liked the initial opening of this but the final dry down was heavy amber, heavy spices, and dry woods with only a tinge of sweetness, and I didn't enjoy this that much. I can see someone else really digging this though."
Fragrantica - "One of my ultimate favorites from imaginary authors. the clay comes in pretty heavy, and i love it. it's such a rich, beautiful fragrance. the vanilla is present without being overwhelmingly sweet. it's sophisticated and mysterious while still being delicious and cozy. it really draws you in. when i wear it, i want to keep smelling it all day. it's also perfectly unisex, which is something i think imaginary authors is really good at. it's very balanced."
Fragrantica - "This is definitely the most interesting thing I've ever smelled.... Reminds me of old books, vanilla candles, bit like a wood fire; I get cinnamon and something that smells a bit like cardamom as well. Just such an interesting smell, really. And although it doesn't project the strongest, it does seem to last a good while. It's been 6 hours since I sprayed it and I'm still getting whiffs of it every once in a while.... I think it also smells a bit like evergreen forests in the opening, like indian incense and pine trees but if yankee candle did a candle for those smells with that soft and sweet vanilla note."
Edit: "This stuff isn't nuclear, but once it dries down it doesn't disappear quickly either. I'd say it has about a 1.5-2 foot range that it projects within, and it projects softly but consistently. I sprayed this on the back of my hand between 9:30-10:30 AM some time and it's 8:15PM now- and I'm still getting pretty strong whiffs of it. What a scent. Worth ever penny for performance like this."
Fragrantica - "My partner tried it on himself last night and god was it ever sexy. such an incredibly resinous and woody amber-vanilla. not too sweet, but sweet enough. i just wanted to eat his arm off it smelled so good."
Fragrantica - "I'm going to go against the grain and say I get something distinctly summer night about this scent. I live in Norway so summer isn't hot, it's just perfect for being in the woods, mountains, or on the fjord making coffee on a fire. It is warm and resinous, and to me feels like I'm deep in the woods by a campfire, breathing in the cold forest air and embers of wood dripping with sap. It works great in the cold months but I think for me this will shine on any time I want to feel especially outdoorsy and rustic, in any season."
Fragrantica - "Creamy and spicy vanilla stewing over burnt firewood. Very wintery and cozy, this feels like being in a sauna with guaiac & oak wood paneling with vanilla steam running through. I can see the resemblance to By the Fireplace, but that one is heavier on the cloves and chestnut notes. Arms' length sillage but definitely stays with you, my turtleneck is carrying this scent well. Best for autumn & winter."
Fragrantica - "The opening is strongly reminiscent of spiked eggnog- boozy, decadent vanilla with a hint of wintry spices. As it dries down, it turns into a cozy fireplace or bonfire aroma, as if you're winding down on a winter night, bundled up in blankets by the fireplace with half-finished rum and eggnog in hand. This scent is what I imagine spending Christmas in a winter cottage with your friends would smell like. Memoirs of a Trespasser perfectly compliments the spirit of late autumn and the magic of Christmas and has become my signature scent for October-November-December."
Fragrantica - "Cozy, clean, and stunning woodsy vanilla, paper accord, with brightness from Bergamot that actually lasts through the life of the scent. Somewhat linear from opening to dry down not that it's a bad thing, and a performance powerhouse. Had multiple people in my sillage from a few feet away comment (positively) like "wow what am I smelling?" "what smells so good?" "Something smells amazing". One of the only fragrances that I've seen or worn that has ever had that type of effect out of MANY designer and niche I've tested. Unisex, may lean either way depending on taste."
Fragrantica - "The scent is mesmerizing, unique, and intriguing. Vanilla is throughout, its sweet and woody. Bergamot at the beginning welcomes you into the journey of earthy forests, mountains and paths. Projects well and lasts all day, even longer on your clothes as you can still smell the travels of yesterday. Memoirs stays with you."
Fragrantica - "This parfum made a magic thing happened : it made me love vanillas....It such a beautiful thing. Not to sweet, well balanced with wood and a dry feeling. On my skin, the clay note is an intimate reminder of my passion for pottery and make this composition even more subtle and grounded. Something in this smell ancient, immemorial, mesopotamian. I totally felt for this one, and I wish nothing more than a full sized bottle."
Fragrantica - "This is what By the Fireplace should've been. If you ever considered it, but think it's a little to smoky, this guy here is an amazing substitute!"
Fragrantica - "This was my signature scent for most of last year. While it does have a sharp, almost abrasive, smoky opening, heightened by the initial alcohol spray, it dries down to a nostalgic, masculine scent which is accentuated by, not complimented by or juxtaposed with, the strong vanilla notes. It's academic, warm, vintage, autumnal. While it doesn't have the farthest sillage, it is a scent that radiates a sort of masculine certainty. Wearing this for a year, definitely did something for my gender. I will say that after wearing it as a signature scent I grew tired of it, but I can't say that I have found anything that so perfectly encapsulated the Dark Academic vibe I was looking for, its been a while though and I might have to go back. The closest match I can think of would probably be Replica's "By the Fireplace" although "Memoir's of a Trespasser"'s smoky notes are more meant to underscore the vanilla while making it less sweet. This scent is beautiful and there really is nothing like it."
Fragrantica - "I love it!!! ...This is deep, warm and creamy with vanilla and bonfire and lasts 12+ hours. It smells feminine to me when I wear it (I am a woman). Like mother nature. Strong and powerful, with a soft and loving embrace. Every time I wear it people take a huge inhale and say "Oh my God, what is that?!?! You smell amazing" My husband can't get enough of it, my BFF bought it for her wedding, and I can't stop smelling myself. If I had to describe Memoirs of a Trespasser as a feeling, it's like reading a book next to a fireplace, in a cabin in the woods, surrounded by those you love. I am now a forever customer."
Fragrantica - "I must say that this fragrance may be the only instance in my life, where I personally feel something positive about vanilla. I really disliked this note for years - in food, fragrances, vanilla protein shakes (they are forever horrible to me).... i reluctantly desided to tap my foot in these despicable waters with a small decant. And OH MY GOD ! Small cupids descended from heavens, singing majestically about perks of meshing vanilla with smells of freshly burnt bourbon barrells, other mysterious woods, and i must say, that this was my jam. Longevity is 8-9 hours easily.... Memoirs of a Trespasser is a work of art."
