Reviews of Guerlain Shalimar L'Essence EDP Intense
Fragrantica - This is so precious! It does have similarities to the Iris version, but this has way more vanilla and suede. This dry down tickles my nose with rich happy vanilla. I hope this becomes part of the permanent collection! She is beautiful. If you love Zou Zou, Cuir Beluga, Aylan, Vanilla Oud, I believe you'll love this too. Superior longevity and sillage!
Fragrantica - I received this from Guerlain today. One of the most beautiful vanilla scents I've ever known, like Shalimar Vanilla Planifolia. It's so beautiful. Instant love
Fragrantica - Shalimar L'Essence (2025) feels like a reinterpretation meant for today less smoky leather, more skin, warmth, and intimacy. It doesn't wear me; it becomes me. On my skin, the powdery notes transform into something soft and magnetic, the vanillin leans creamy, and the musk's gentle lift keeps it alive for hours. This is Shalimar reborn, not as a memory of the past, but as an elegant signature for the modern man wearing what would be Jicky in 2025.
Fragrantica - it's great... Everyone told me it was going to be Millesime Vanilla Planifolia "again" or "redone"... NOT at all... Truth be told, Millesime Vanilla Planifolia is sweeter than this and far removed from original Shalimar.. this one smells more put-together, more expensive and MUCH more like shalimar... If I have to compare it ONE flanker (and I really have tried all off them lol) it would be the Ode a la Vanille sur la Route de Madagascar.... And while I LOVE that one, this one is still better... Really delighted with this
Fragrantica - This intense eau de parfum celebrates vanilla in every form. Delphine Jelk has added the precious Madagascan vanilla tincture stemming from Guerlain's ancestral know-how to the ethylvanillin found in Jacques Guerlain's original formula, giving Shalimar a new intensity.
Discreet and subtle, bergamot illuminates the floral heart which blends rose absolute with the powdery elegance of iris. Little by little, Shalimar's amber note unfolds. Used in abundance, vanilla infuses it with new facets - smooth and woody with a hint of leather.
Fragrantica - he way my eyes rolled back when I smelled this. It's literally Shalimar x SDV but more airy and less boozy. I can't stop sniffing my arms because it's just so addictive!
Fragrantica - DELPHINE JELK DID HER BIG ONE WITH THIS GUERLAIN RELEASE! I have never, ever been able to tolerate Shalimar or any of the flankers my entire life. I've either had to return or sell all of them at some point. BUT, Shalimar L'Essence can easily be a signature scent for me as I'm just smitten with this new release from the house.
Fragrantica - The original Shalimar awakened the senses with its bright burst of bergamot (which I never really cared for), but this one pulls you in differently. It's like being enveloped in a soft, vanillic-iris blanket-powdery, delicate, and quietly inviting, with just a hint of sweetness. It doesn't shout; it whispers, wrapping you in a gentle, sensual aura. In L'Essence, vanilla really takes center stage.
Fragrantica - Shalimar L'Essence is a most welcome addition to my collection. It truly embraces the original Shalimar DNA. But they've uncluttered all of those old powdery aldehyde and floral notes, and they amped the vanilla notes up to ELEVEN. It still has the synthetic vanillin, which is perfect, but now the perfume also has the gorgeous true vanilla that only Guerlain can do so well. It's not that overly sweet, cupcake-y vanilla so prevalent in many gourmand fragrances. Oh no. It's soft, and flirty, and expensive, and quite hypnotic.
And like the original version, this Shalimar is unisex. In 1925, there were as many men strolling through Paris wearing it as there were women. I would love smelling this on a confident, well groomed, fashionable man. You lumberjack, greasy mechanic, beer guzzling, plumber's crack flashing types can stick to your drug store colognes. This one is not for you.
Fragrantica - Shalimar L'Essence is so universally wearable ... female/male, young/old, Shalimar veteran/newbie ... If one of Guerlain's goals with this fragrance was to attract a new audience of paying customers .... a younger generation, more men and/or women who have never taken to Shalimar in the past, I am going to guess that they have succeeded. As a guy, I bought this for myself. My wife will have to get her own. I love it.
Fragrantica - I have a few versions of Shalimar and this is the best one I own. The added vanilla/vanillin is just the perfect amount. They nailed the attempt
