Autumn winds skip across golden wheat fields. As the tall grasses billow, the rattle of husks beats a soft prairie lullaby, signaling to the weary sun to rest. In the fading light, tiny harvest mice venture forth, scrambling to gather seeds and fruits. For once the sun sinks fully beneath the horizon, its rule of the sky is bestowed on another. And when the coo of the owl breaks the night, the mice dash, trembling, back to their nests.
Like a countryside bathed in sweet sunlight, Harvest Mouse by Zoologist conjures images of home-baked goodness. Stalks of wheat sway among chamomile, davana and hay, and rich beer extracts are sobered by resins and woody notes. Cozy up in a warm nest of homespun scent.
REVIEWS
Fragrantica - Chamomile, Beer/Ale and Hay are very dominant. I can't pick up the other notes which are masterfully blended.
Fragrantica - A deliciously creamy, sweet, slightly sharp, and faintly green fragrance, easily one of the most likable Zoologists perfumes. Perfumes from this brand are usually a very understandable interpretation of the animal they represent, Harvest Mouse breaks that mold, its scent could perfectly well fit any small animal, not necessarily a Mouse, living near a barn or crop field, or even far away from the fields, in a city brewery or an old bakery.
This fragrance is foremost a yeast scented concoction, which comes from the Beer, this note doesn't make the perfume boozy but rather very similar to the aroma you'll get from driving near a big brewery or in an old bakery very early in the morning, while they're baking white bread, it also has a lovely and creamy Vanilla / Benzoin / Sandalwood aura, a slightly fruity scent from a fantastic blend of Bergamot and Rose, and a very delicate green envelope which comes from the Peru Balsam, the Opoponax, and the Balsam Fir. The Cedar and Oakmoss are also there, truly very well blended with the rest of the components.
Fragrantica - Harvest Mouse is similar to the Zoologist Bee perfume in how sweet it starts, but the finish is less floral/syrupy and more akin to grain. There are definite notes of hay and hops, like a good honey wheat bread or ale. It's pleasant and warm, with the classic Zoologist longevity!
Fragrantica - Starts with some soft orange blossom and hay. At first it is more herbal. I can smell the rose just a little bit. A couple of minutes after it becomes more gourmant. I can feel the association with baked goods. The vanilla becomes more noticeable as well. At some point it does smell like a yeasty homemade caramel brioche.
Fragrantica - I love wheat and cereal type notes in perfumes but I absolutely cannot abide dried fruits or immortelle, so most of the other extent wheats are off the table for me. This is so comforting and warm - thankfully the beer note really only comes up for me on the first spray and quickly dissipates. This smells like nothing else in my 100+ bottle collection; I really love this juice.
Fragrantica - This is very cozy, long-lasting, moderate-reach. The beer note is very light in the middle - think more like a lazy cold Sunday, you're in a warm tavern or a warm cottagecore kitchen, someone is there with you sipping a light ale, you're having a cup of tea, and you're sharing warm, fresh-baked bread. I could see this as my go-to fall scent.
Fragrantica - When the hay/beer come in, I really like how bread-y it makes it. It retains some level of mild sweetness throughout, with the drydown being more of a sweetgrass/hay/slightly balsamic woods in a faded bakery for me. Nice
Fragrantica - This settles into such a cozy warm scent, kind of nutty and the beer note is very prominent but not in a boozy way, just in a kind of bready way.
Fragrantica - Harvest Mouse is probably my favourite of Zoologist. It smells how my Saturdays growing up used to smell: like a horse stable. It makes me super nostalgic. An amazing blend of hay and chamomile. It is a skinscent, but oh so lovely. I could still smell whiffs of it after 30+ hours after 2 little sprays. Within those 30+ hours I showered twice and also slept. The scent was still there. I can not wait to get my full bottle.
Fragrantica - This is gorgeous. Of course I could be bias, Luca Maffei is one of my favourite perfumers. Its a semi gourmand to my nose. It certainly has some fruity tones to it, along with warm hay, mild grassy notes and light chamomile. It opens with lashings of orange blossom and davana, and plenty of benzoin. And what I recognise as hops, a melange of citrusy tones along with floral fruity notes, light woods, resins and berries swathed in light boozy notes, is present here as well. It also has a soft creamy tone, plenty of vanilla, it offered to me a warm bakery vibe that was quite delectable. Its also quite persistent, longevity is amazing and will leave you compulsively sniffing your wrist. I personally couldn't put it down.
Fragrantica - I get the wheat fields, it's so comforting like baking bread with sweet vanilla vaguely floral notes floating on top. The listed green herbal notes are there too but mostly sublimated into the bakery vibe for me. I love this
Fragrantica - Harvest Mouse has a sweet and mildly fruity vanilla candy like opening that seems youthful and a bit feminine. As it dries much of the sugary fruit fades and is replaced by a more prominent hay note that is blended really nicely with the vanilla. The sweetness becomes more tempered by the greens without it ever becoming a green fragrance, and together they are more evocative of a field of dry grass than a barn yard. This dry grassy vanilla makes up most of the wear and I feel this comes to define the overall wearing experience, which I found both cosy and somewhat unique.
