Serge Lutens Bapteme du Feu (baptism by Fire) was relesed in A 2016. A unisex oriental fragrance with notes of gingerbread, powdery notes, tangerine, castoreum, osmanthus and woody notes.
This fragrance was inspired by the fun fairs of Serge Lutens' youth. It features notes of sweet delights, animalic musk and acerbic gunpowder of the carnival shooting range. An exhilarating sense of chaos with just the right amount of danger.

Fragrantica - This is a real banger! Beautifully blended and it develops awesome on skin. Intense opening then it gets softer and varmer and then the sweet gingerbread and skank (the good kind) shows itself . Masterpiece
Fragrantica - If Lord Lucifer had a perfume, this would be it! And I absolutely love it! I cannot feel gingerbread, nor any other notes listed here. But I feel the metal, the darkness, the depth of it in a way that I do not need to know what is made of. Congratulations to the creator of this masterpiece!
Fragrantica - Gorgeous stuff. Makes me think of a hot summer evening in the city. Definitely get the firecracker effect. This kind of feels like a modern nod to Old Spice which was a wild little thing when it was created. Favorite niche so far.
Fragrantica - FYI The powder in this is gun powder. This a hot fragrance to me. Like literaly hot. It gives the impression of heat. Like hot ginger and orange tea with a little floral sweetness and a faint dirty wisper in the background. It also has a metalic vibe, a bit blode like wich is the gunpowder imo. A nice frag.
Fragrantica - I didn't get Christmas either: I got crystalized ginger in sea air. It's fizzy ginger, almost fresh but with crystalized sweet notes and fresh air from the citrus, Faint faint florals so light they don't register as flowers and some nice warm light spices round this out. I love it all day long. Very nice.
Fragrantica - I find this scent to be very tempting on men and mysterious on women. Bapteme du Feu reminds me of sitting in some luxurious leather coach watching woods burning in the fireplace and eating some baked gingerbreads during that time and also smelling the fire of the lighter that I lighted the cigarette with. This scent reminds me of aristocracy - castles, high end clothing and classy personas.
Fragrantica - Pure love for me. Bitter-sweetness of winter citrus, with a hint of ginger. Not gourmand, but a cosy atmosphere. At first. With time (and in cold weather), you'll slowly discover that it is not that simple. The fragrance has several faces. As if Santa had a gun in his pocket.
I do really enjoy the cold metallic note. It make the whole thing so interesting.
Fragrantica - The ultimate dark fairytale perfume. With Baptism by Fire, the eclectic Serge Lutens have created one of the most unique perfumes that immediately transport you to the land of the Grimm fairytales. The perfume opens with notes of gingerbread and tangerine. The heart encompasses osmanthus and castoreum. The perfume dries down into a woody powdery base where I can detect cedar, cloves, ginger and patchouli, perhaps amber. Unisex (slight feminine leaning) with moderate projection and sillage and very good longevity. Only for fairy tale lovers. Enjoy!
Fragrantica - Wonderful! Sweet and delicious!! Gorgeous marmalade beginning, followed soon by delicious gingerbread then lovely flowers and woods. It becomes smoother and more velvety as time goes on, and is really beautiful. Beautiful and totally divine. A scrumptious gourmand. I love it, it's fabulous. It lasts so well too, hours and hours, and stays delectably strong the whole way. It's a gorgeous gorgeous fragrance.
from nstperfume - "In brief, Bapteme du feu is a sheer gourmand fragrance loaded with baking spice and bright with tingling citrus and stemmy floral top notes. Cinnamon and sweetened ginger hit me first, but it's more complex than any gingerbread I've ever eaten. For one, a green thread runs through it, diluting the fragrance's bent toward the pastry case. For another, an almost caramelized wood grounds it.
Finally, a hit of "manly cologne" - I'm not sure what else to call it - rises as Bapteme du Feu settles. It's not lavender and not fougere, but it's traditionally "manly" all the same. This has the advantage of pulling Bapteme du feu out of scented candle territory, but it also moves the fragrance from my own preference zone. Someone who has longed for a scent that bridges a classic Eau de Cologne and a warm gourmand fragrance, though, might find the answer to his or her prayers in this one."
from thescentedhound - "WHAT I SMELL: Wow...Bapteme du feu has a wonderful opening that's cool to the touch, incredibly juicy and vibrant with a blast of bright citrus and bergamot. The perfume begins to warm quickly and the juiciness subsides to reveal a ripened osmanthus along with an orange rind like sourness. After 10 minutes or so, a ginger note begins to surface along with a wafting incense. What was joyous and bright has moved to a mysterious tonality. The perfume then takes another turn and the incense disappears and the perfume become fully ginger...and it grows exponentially in projection. But of course, Uncle Serge needs to contradict my words and once again, a wafting incense reveals itself. The ginger makes the perfume a little sweet, but not too much as there's a light herbal base that resides under the candied root. After an hour, the perfume begins to dust and powder with a metallic edge as the candied aspects are lessened. In the end you're left with a woody powdered ginger dustiness."
