D'ANNAM MATCHA SOFT SERVE REVIEWS
D'Annam - a photorealistic matcha, like you're whisking it right in front of you. the opening of this perfume starts off with an incredible replication of real matcha that i love. as it dries down and throughout wearing it, this perfume becomes a little sweeter, and you get the subtle undertones of vanilla peeking through. such a cozy and nostalgic smell for me and i adore it. easily became one of my favorite perfumes at first sniff. much love!
D'Annam - This smells exactly like a matcha ice cream. After dry down , the earthy matcha scent kind of disappears and turns into a beautiful sweet milky vanilla slight waffle scent (like a waffle cone). Much more wearable than you'd think. One of the most unique, yet nostalgic scents i have laid my nose on.
D'Annam - I love it! Tried a sample and immediately ordered. Lasts a long time and is a heavenly scent. Smells like true matcha. Photorealistic scent. Can be worn all year round.
Fragrantica - DELICIOUS! There's such a lovely blast of sweet matcha scent right off the bat. It has the same realistic matcha note as matcha meditation but it's sweeter, yet somehow still holds onto that realistic note and doesn't come off as too sugary. Meanwhile, with matcha meditation I find that the matcha note all but disappears within a few minutes, so I really like that it sticks around with this fragrance. A more subtle note is almost... floral? Also appears after a few minutes. That might be the vanilla interacting with the matcha or something, but either way I really like it. Overall, I love this scent. It's such a tasty matcha and while you get the ice cream vibe, it's not overly sugary at all. I don't know if I smell the waffle cone or not but I'm not complaining because the rest of it is so lovely. Definitely my new favorite matcha fragrance.
Fragrantica - One of the, if not the best photorealistic matcha scents I have ever smelt. Once you first spray it on, personally, all I can get is just the tea scent, but after it has been on the skin for awhile, it definitely develops into a sweeter, lighter scent that is absolutely divine. If you've been looking for a realistic matcha scent, I would absolutely recommend this one!
Fragrantica - If you've had a matcha soft serve outside of a temple in Kyoto - one where they sprinkled extra matcha powder on top - you can attest to the fact that this does honestly smell like its namesake. As others have shared, it opens as a nearly photorealistic matcha fragrance. I certainly get ebbs and flows of vanilla, and while others don't get the waffle cone, I get the faintest hint of something not all that dissimilar from, say, Imaginary Authors' waffle cone fragrance.
This is not a Matcha Meditation dupe - but that's not a bad thing. Never a full on matcha latte/frap, where d'Annam truly diverges from Margiela is in just how green the fragrance stays over time. Two sides of a similar coin. In the end, the closest I've come to recreating MM is by layering this with Kilian's Princess. I'm only upset that I now have to buy two bottles to half-heartedly recreate what I used to have in one.
Fragrantica - I think this may be the best matcha fragrance out there right now. It's surprisingly measured, in that you expect this to be a Jousset-like ultra gourmand (ie- super sweet), but it's a very wearable, delightful scent. The matcha opens earthy and green. A very realistic and Japanese matcha, as opposed to the more floral matcha that is found in a lot of Asian matcha dishes. I find the matcha eases off after an hour and the scent becomes more lactonic and even floral/powdery. I don't really get the waffle cone unless I really think about it. It's a beautiful scent overall and I see myself getting a full bottle. Performance is quite good. I wore a little to bed and I could still smell it on my wrist the next morning.
Fragrantica - Smells like matcha meditation but more matcha like and less floral. You also get the waffle cone in the background. It's not overly sweet, it's perfect.
Fragrantica - Nails the photo realism of matcha to a T. This opens with that fresh, green, powdery, and earthy aroma that pure matcha tends to have. It's like you've just opened a new tin of ceremonial matcha and the smell has graced your nose. Then the scent develops and you get a subtle milky creaminess that's cloud like, paired with an unsweetened waffle cone note in the background. There's no detectable vanilla and overall it's not super sweet which I appreciate. I wouldn't say I get matcha ice cream from here but it does have a subtle creaminess to it and the matcha is perfectly done. A 10/10 matcha scent in my books.
