Single Floral
: Fragrances that are dominated by a scent from one particular flower; in French called a soliflore.
Your samples for this category will be -

  • Guerlain Rosa Magnifica. Rose is one of the most used florals in perfumery & Rosa Magnifica is a linear warm rose.
  •

Floral Bouquet: Containing the combination of several flowers in a scent ~ Your sample to represent this classic category

  • Creed 2000 Fleurs, as the name suggests its chock full of florals, none of them taking center stage
  • Estee Lauder Tuberose Gardenia is a beautiful blend of a Tuberose, Gardenia & other white florals for a classic modern floral

Oriental/Ambery: A large fragrance class featuring the scents of vanilla, Amber and animal scents together with flowers and woods. Can be enhanced by camphorous oils and incense resins, which bring to mind Victorian era imagery of the Middle East and Far East.   Your sample for this category

  • Guerlain's Shalimar is the quintessential example of an oriental fragrance, rich, warm & vanillic. This sample being pure parfum will be 1/2 sample vial.

Woody: Fragrances that are dominated by woody scents, typically of sandalwood and cedar. Patchouli, with its camphoraceous smell, is commonly found in these perfumes.    Your sample for this category Is a true Classic & the second choice is a new comer by Laura Tonnato blending sandalwood & tea

  • Chanel Bois des Iles & is one of the finest Sandalwood fragrances ever made.
  • Laura Tonatto Sandalo Per Teti

Leather: A family of fragrances which features the scents of honey, tobacco, wood and wood tars in its middle or base notes and a scent that alludes to leather.

  • Chanel Cuir de Russie  is made to smell like russian Leather

Chypre: Meaning Cyprus in French, this includes fragrances built on a similar accord consisting of bergamot in the opening , & oakmoss, patchouli, or labdanum in the base. The Class ic Chypre always has Oakmoss in the base. This family of fragrances is named after a perfume by François Coty. A notable example & the sample you will receive is

  • Mitsuko (meaning mystery in
  • Japanese) by Guerlain.  Guerlain was the first to add rich fruity notes to the chypre fragrance & Mitsouko is a bench mark in perfume history.

Fougère: Meaning Fern in French, built on a base of lavender, coumarin and oakmoss. Houbigant's Fougère Royale pioneered the use of this base. Many men's fragrances belong to this family of fragrances, which is characterized by its sharp herbaceous and woody scent. Your sample will be

  • Annick Goutal Eau de Lavande. While Guerlain's Jicky is a classic example of a Fougere it is also heavy on civet which is a difficult note to get used to.

Modern Scents - Since 1945, due to great advances in the technology of perfume creation (i.e., compound design and synthesis) as well as the natural development of styles and tastes; new categories have emerged to describe modern scents

Aldehydic ~ This category was made famous by the still loved & classic Chanel no. 5
The use of aldehydes gives perfume a bright bubbly & powdery effect.

  • Chanel no. 5 EDP
  • Piguet Baghari

Fresh: A new category represented by just showered scents or skin scents often with a soapy quality or white musk combo.

  • Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier - Fraicheur Muskissime typifies the fresh white musk, soapy accord that says "my skin only better" scent.

Green: a lighter and more modern interpretation of the Chypre type often including Green Tea ~

  • Mor Jasmine Tea is a blend of green Tea, Jasmine, bamboo & Lime Leaves resulting in a refreshing, sparkling light  green scent. Another Green category which has taken the Niche market by storm is Fig leaf.....The Ultimate example of this is
  • Pacifica Mediterrannean Fig Another Green category which has taken the Niche market by storm is Fig leaf, Pacifica's fig fragrance is wonderful & true to the fig plant.

Bright Floral: combining the traditional Single Floral & Floral Bouquet categories, featuring a main floral as in a soliflore but adding elements of other light notes & other florals to support the featured flower. The sample are:

  • Maitre Parfumeur's Fleur d'Iris features both the Iris flower & root with supporting florals of Rose & violet & greens to lift it & make it light & fresh. Fleur d"iris is a perfect example of iris fragrances as well.
  • Comptoir Sud Pacifique Eau de Naphe. ~ Orange Blossom & other florals combined to create a bright light slighty heady Orange blossom fragrance.

Oceanic/Ozone: the newest category in perfume history, appearing in 1991 with Christian Dior's Dune. A very clean, modern smell leading to many of the modern androgynous perfumes. For this category the sample is:

  • Acqua di Parma's Quercia Marina (marine oak)

Citrus or Fruity: An old fragrance family that until recently consisted mainly of "freshening" eau de colognes due to the low tenacity of citrus scents. Development of newer fragrance compounds has allowed for the creation of primarily citrus fragrances.  The samples are:

  • I Profumi Limone A lemony citrus scent
  • Hermes Eau d"Orange Vert A perfect example of a fruity fragrance.

Gourmand: scents with "edible" or "dessert"-like qualities. These often contain notes like Chocolate, Almond, vanilla and tonka bean, as well as synthetic components designed to resemble food flavors.

  • Hermes Ambre Narguile is one of the most beautiful, rich foodlike perfumes made today A smorgesbord of baked breakfast goods, custards, & dessert spices make this one of todays most worn scents.

Reality Scents: The Newest category in perfumery to come about are reality scents. here perfume mirrors everyday life & makes scents using perfume to create the exact scents found in the world.

  • CB I hate perfumes specializes in this type of perfumery. I am including a sample of Black March....

Including in this sample pack are the following 21 fragrances all 1 ml sample vials except for the 2 parfums Shalimar & tabac blond & the Micallef floral which will be 1/2 filled sample vials.
